Link dump – Thursday, July 2

- The King of Pop reigns over all media, including apparently even LEGO news, as the Los Angeles Times reports in the story titled, ‘Legoland to memorialize Michael Jackson as LEGO figure.’

- Brickstructures, Inc.’s very own Adam Reed Tucker, known for his work with the LEGO Architecture theme, made ABC7News (Chicago) in the feature, ‘Lego skyscrapers on display at MSI.’ More on this featured at the Chicagoist.

- Renée Carver, with the (Chicago Children’s Toys) Examiner earns her referral fees with two articles titled, ‘LEGO minifigure specials for July,’ and ’New exclusive Grand Carousel set available now at LEGO stores.’ 10196 – Grand Carousel, as it turns out, actually went on sale a couple days early through Shop At Home. BrickJournal’s Megan Rothrock already has a review.

- Seemingly everyone is reporting on the educational benefits of LEGO in the past 24 hours, as there have been at least six articles in the Google News feed since yesterday afternoon on learning opportunities for all ages. NBC5 (Bismarck) ran the story, ‘LEGO Camp for Kids.’ Talk Radio News Service cornered LEGO’s market communications coordinator Debra Smith long enough to get two stories out of her, titled ‘No More Faking Sick: Tech Savvy Education Providers Make Learning Fun,’ and ‘LEGO Products Are Now Educational, Even For College Students.’ KHTS AM 1220 (Santa Clarita) informs viewers/readers that kids are ‘Experiencing Summer In a Whole New Light.’ And even Florida International University’s student media is aboard the bandwagon, where LEGO education is covered further down in a piece titled, ‘Rec center offers kayaking, field trips for young campers.’

- Dee and Ricky aren’t the only ones looking to cash in on LEGO’s enduring popularity by taking the iconic bricks and turning them into fashion statements, as InventorSpot highlights with the story, ‘Unique LEGO Couture: The Dress That JC De Castelbajac Built.’

- The last item for today: übergizmo points out you can add some bling to your iPod with these Gold and Silver LEGO speakers (which suspiciously lack the trademark LEGO name on the studs, which means they may as well just be generic bricks).

Not LEGOs. "Retro blocks."
